CONCEPT

Graphpaper, the store that functions as an art gallery.
Takayuki Minami created Graphpaper in Aoyama district of Tokyo in February 2015. Inspired by Harald Szeemann, the independent curator who pioneered the metamorphosis of international art exhibitions, and his attitude “free from any regulation”. The space lines up all the works equally, not restrained by time or genres. On the wall of this symmetrical space, designed to show neutrally, the black canvas are installed golden ratio. By pulling back the canvas, the works will be revealed. They are thus hidden in the drawers-canvas, so as to make the space itself an art piece and to eliminate unnecessary visual interruption.

Harald Szeemann
(11 June 1933 – 18 February 2005)

Harald Szeemann, in the exhibition “Live in your head: when attitudes become form” (Kunsthalle Bern, 1969) which made his reputation built up, has treated European and American artists equally, contrary to a conventional manner. His attitude, on the basis of a close cooperation with artists, to show them from his original point of view has renovated a concept of curators, who had been principally in charge of the conservation or the control of the works in the museum until that time. His curation impressed that art movements of that time are arisen simultaneously across the continents, and Szeemann, is considered today to have reformed the methodology of curation and redefined the role of an art curator itself.
